Bank of England and the Bank of France were both founded by
Scots. The first US Secretary to the Treasury, James Pollock
and originator of the "In God We Trust" phrase on every dollar
bill, was Scottish. Money itself was invented in the New Town
in 1745 by a team of Edinburgh lawyers. I made that last one
up but it wouldn't surprise anyone.
The fact is
that a reputation for frugality is attractive. Survey after
survey shows that more people trust a Scottish accent when
talking about money than any other accent from the United
Kingdom. Therefore it is no small truth to say that our
domination of the call centre industry depends on keeping our
mean - sorry, "careful with money" - reputation intact

Scotland, all the
natives speak English. But, when you talk to the working class,
everyday man on the street, you might not understand a single word he says.
That's because he speaks in Scots or Scottish vernacular. Matthew Fitt had
a brilliant idea. To "translate" a popular children's classic called "The
Twits" into Scots and he named it "The Eejits" which is The Idiots. I
was given this book as a gift and laughed hard at so much of it as it really
is hilarious. I searched for an audio cd of it but none was available, so
I've added my own take to it.
